WISCONSIN SELF-SERVICE AND DRYCLEANERS, INC. was formed in 1963 to fight against a proposed sales tax for self-service laundry patrons.
Since that early beginning, the association is now known as Wisconsin Self-Service Laundry Association (WSLA) and has grown to encompass many Laundromat operators, equipment vendors and distributors; providing educational seminars, equipment showcases, service schools, camaraderie and long-time friendships within the membership and associates.
Through this camaraderie, members share information to better their businesses and learn about new opportunities in the Laundromat industry. As a result of their efforts, WSLA was voted "1997 Affiliate of the Year" by the Coin Laundry Association, CLA.
Today, WSLA continues to monitor and lobby against any proposed sales tax efforts by the Wisconsin Legislature. WSLA holds an annual fall convention where members and non-members alike, may participate in vendor sponsored service schools, an equipment showcase along with educational seminars and renewed friendships!
MAKE THE TIME to do what you can to support WSLA. Volunteer for a committee, send articles to the Progress, send suggestions to the Association. WSLA is your voice in the success of self-service laundry businesses. JOIN TWO ASSOCIATIONS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE! WSLA, an affiliate of CLA, is inviting new members to participate in our Association. Dues for new members are $240 for one store, $270 for two or more stores. These dues provide membership in BOTH state and national associations. New members will receive the coveted "Gold Book" and a wealth of materials to get started on the right foot. Additional membership benefits for WSLA/CLA include specialized insurance rates, educational forums and services, lobbying services at the state and federal levels, and many, many more. MEMBERSHIP renewal will be due in the month your membership was originally started.
Any owner who needs rationale for membership simply needs to calculate the amount of sales tax that would be due and collectible if the exemption from Wisconsin sales tax were not in effect. Without WSLA continually monitoring and fighting to keep our tax exempt status, 5% (or 5.5% in some counties) would be due to the Department of Revenue. Calculate it.....5% of your monthly gross - every month - to the DOR. Makes the annual dues very much worth the expense, doesn't it??
